And that is what SaffronStays does. The team makes sure that they are not resting so that you can rest and enjoy your holiday.”

SAFFRONSTAYS’S RAPID EXPANSION PLAN

SaffronStays: Where Families Bond is a micro-hospitality collective, started in October, 2015 with one home SaffronStays Parsi Manor, Matheran – and has grown exponentially ever since. In a short span of less than 19 months, SaffronStays has clocked over a million USD in revenues and hosted over 6000 families from Mumbai and Pune, who keep coming back to experience the delightful hand-crafted hospitality.

SaffronStays is currently largely operational around Mumbai, Pune, Goa and a few chosen locations in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.  Plans are afoot to rapidly expand to most parts of the country, without compromising on quality of experience offered. Currently, they have 28 homes and plan to onboard 40 exclusive homes (over 200 rooms) very soon. The goal is to have over 2000 homes managed and branded by SaffronStays in the next 5-7 years.

SaffronStays presently has properties in Bhugaon, Murud, Alibaug, Kihim, Dapoli, Mulshi, Matheran, Panchgani, Karjat, Khopoli, Gholvad, Kamshet, Lavasa, Panvel, Goa, Kodaikanal, Ooty, Gwaldham and Jaipur.

Every home goes through a rigorous 100-point checklist before even being considered to join the network, and a rigorous on-boarding process, that involves upgrades to every aspect from tasteful interiors to landscaping, from staffing and their training to technology deployment, to deployment of the processes and methods are undertaken.

Mr. Devendra Parulekar, Co-Founder of SaffronStays, stated “SaffronStays wishes to be the dominant managed vacation rentals company for the discerning Indian traveller.  We will follow the Indian travellers across the world, by offering hand-crafted Indian hospitality in such gorgeous Homes. Now that we have cracked the product-market fit, achieved unit-level and even transaction-level profitability, and also understood all the operational problems associated with the model and figured out the ways to overcome these problems, we think it is time to raise some serious money to rapidly scale the business.  We are looking to raise 20 million USD, to fund these expansion plans.  A large part of the investment raised will be invested in our Technology backbone, expanding our network of exclusive Homes across the world and also establishing a world class brand.”

Ms. Tejas Parulekar, Founder says, “An aspirational, upwardly-mobile traveller today considers a Vacation Rental as a preferred option over traditional Hotels, considering the unique Staycation experience alongside the privacy and exclusivity offered by a heritage or a luxe bungalow, in a stunning countryside estate.”

The Golden Tusk Resort a complete vacation package.

The Golden Tusk Resort a complete vacation package.

THE GOLDEN TUSK RESORT

All you need for a vacation

With the backdrop of Jim Corbett and the Shivalik ranges of the Himalayas, only thing you would be looking for is a nice home-like comfortable place to spend a few days far away from the hustle ‘n’ bustle of the city. The Golden Tusk Resort is a blessing in disguise for families, naturalists and wildlife enthusiasts. The resort not only offers some beautifully crafted rooms it also has a rich blend of flora and fauna. With more than 100 species of plants and trees, the resort has abundant birds throughout the year for the visitors to enrich. The resort, situated on the bank of a seasonal river is an eye candid during monsoon and give a soothing view during rest of the years. If you are nearby Ramnagar or planning to spend a long weekend then this is a not to miss, place.

We planned for an outing and a jungle safari a couple of months back and that’s when I stumbled across The Golden Tusk resort. I was a bit skeptical about the place initially but it was worth a try since this is considered to be a good season for the safari as the chances of wildlife sighting increases manifolds. We started our journey from Delhi to Ramnagar with a super excited kid, who was going to have some great experiences. Starting from his first train travel to exploring a lot of new things about the nature and wildlife. The temperature in Delhi was soaring 44 degrees when we started and expected an equivalent hot evening in Ramnagar based on the weather forecasts. However, by the time we crossed Kashipur the weather had changed and a thunderstorm had lashed the small town with sporadic rains and cool breeze. It was almost 9 pm  when we reached Ramnagar. We were picked up by the resort representatives at the station and we started our journey to the resort, located approximately 20 kms from the station. The resort representative were very enthusiastic and we had a lot of chit chat about our journey, Ramnagar, Jim Corbett during this 25 minutes drive including some chat with our kid who was excited to spot a tiger.

Upon reaching the resort we were given a very warm welcome by the General Manager Mr. Sujit and the reception staff. Welcome drink offered was the juice of Burans a famous flower in the Kausani region of the Himalayas. Later we were shifted to our country view room and we could see the village with limited movement of people. The room was very spacious, well laid out and had all facilities that would make you feel home starting from a comfortable bed, a TV, Refrigerator and an AC. Outside the room there was a neatly maintained sitting spot with a set of table and chairs for the guests to sit, relax and enjoy together with the village in their sighting.

The resort also offers other rooms such as forest view, villas, grand villas, tiger suites, and luxury tents. For more details about the rooms and tariff please refer to the resort website.

After settling down, we walked down towards the restaurant which is built on an elevated platform and  away from the rooms. Standing on the front stairs of the restaurant one can have a clear view of the village where as the stairs at the rear side of the restaurant give a magnificient view of a well maintained ground followed by a perrinnial river bed with the mountains in the backdrop. The place can captivate any person and force them to sit there for hours cherishing the nature’s beauty.

We had a sumptuous dinner which was tasty and quality as compared to any famous restaurant in the cities. The restaurant offers a lavish buffet with Veg and Non-Veg options alongwith Ala-carte and live grill options. The staff at the restaurant was equally generous and courteous as the staff at the reception. After the dinner we took a walk around the resort listening to some of the insect and birds that we once used to hear in our native cities and are now lost in the harrowing sounds of mordenization in the cities.

The next day was at leisure for us and we utilized the time properly by starting with a delicious breakfast followed by a walk around the resort. The resort offers a conference hall for official meetings, gymmnasium, swimming pool, indoor games, spa, cycling, bar for those who want to just relax and enjoy the ambience, nature’s beauty and spend some leisure time with family and friends. As the temperature increased we thought to cool down in the swimming pool and spend around a couple of hours there. Below are some random clicks around the resort.

Post lunch, as the temperature soared above 40 degrees we went back to our room to rest and then in the evening we moved out for some more fun, after a quick high tea which is served in the back lawn on the banks of the river and some games with the kid, we moved for some sports activities. The resort offers a few adventure sports such as military hurdle for children and wall climbing and flying fox for adults and other games like basketball, badminton, volley ball etc. It was a real fun in trying the wall climbing and flying fox.

With the dusk falling and the full moon on the horizon, it was time for the birds to return to their bases and we experienced a mesmerizing noise of the birds chirping all around the resort as if they were discussing their activities and experiences during the day, reminding me of the days we used to sit with our parents and grandparents telling them our daily experiences and question nuts and bolts of anything and everything. As my kid sat in my lap listening to the birds, It was a mixed feeling for me which filled me with joy on one hand and reminded me the pain long forgotten of being far away from our near and dear ones knowing that in times to come there will be nothing left other than memories to cherish. I gradually composed myself back to the present and starting explaining my kid about the sudden movement and chirping of the birds.

Next day we had the Safari planned and till evening we were masquerading in the resort as if we were the residents there. By evening 4 pm we were all set for the Safari, please note that the Safari is subject to prior booking and the availability depends on the permit from the government departments. Please check with the resort before planning the trip or safari. It was a real fun and a great experience, the presence of the qualified guide from the forest department and the knowledgeable representative from the resort made it more interesting, wherein a lot of information was shared by both the people. It is because of them that we were able to understand lot of things and also clear out the myths we have been growing up with about the jungle and the animals. It was a time well spent and we would  be taking up that experience in our next post.

We also got a chance to have a chat with the owner of the resort Mr. Anirudh who completed his MBA from Amity university and also had worked in some private sector organizations, it was a pretty informative meeting and he shared his vision and aspirations about the resort. He also told us about how the resort was built in that place and that the rooms were furnished differently based on specific concept in sync with various flowers. He also gave us a glimpse on the additions they would be bringing to the resort thus making it more family friendly and it becomes a one stop shop for all age groups. The resort also fulfills its responsibility towards the society and have taken up numerous CSR initiatives including a village and forest clean up drives in association with TCHRI. The idealogy being followed is to create memories for the people visiting the resort and I would admit that in a stay of 2 days i never felt away from home making some very good memories for years to come.

Restaurant Caesars – Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Barsha, Dubai

Restaurant Caesars – Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Barsha, Dubai

Close to Mall of the Emirates, Caesars is one of the best restaurant for Veg, Non-Veg options in Dubai. The food gives a perfect Indian taste and ambience is impeccable to dine out. Be it with family or friends, this place is a definite try. The most loving part of Caesars is service. Staff is so humble that you feel at home.

One of the service incident would like to share here. Staff mistakenly served the different curry instead of what we ordered. The confusion started when we were giving order and this wrong curry was also mentioned when we were deciding for the order. We mentioned this to staff supervisor when having lunch and supervisor conveyed his sorry and asked if we want to replace our curry. We humbly said no. We were also not discontent with this mistake since our experience so far with ambience, staff and food quality was very good. Just before we asked for bill, staff supervisor brought Gulab Jamun for all of us as a compliment for their mistake. It was so pleasing experience to see their way of surprising us!

About pricing, compared to any other quality Indian restaurant, Caesars is equal or little less. On top of it, there is a 10% discount on Emirates NBD cards. For us, it was one of the best dine out in Dubai in all ways. We promised to visit it again. 4.5 out of 5 from our side. A must try at least for once!

Ibis Styles Paris Bercy – An Average One!

Ibis Styles Paris Bercy – An Average One!

During our 9 days Europe trip, our last stop was Paris. As per our strategy, we wanted to stay close to the metro station so we can access the public transport easily. By going through many options over the net, we finally stopped at IBIS Styles which was near to Bercy Metro station. Bercy is only one stop away from Paris main station ‘Gare De Lyon Paris’.

We paid around 240 Euro for 3 nights stay.

We concluded with IBIS Styles considering following;

  1. Close to metro
  2. Not too expensive
  3. Breakfast included
  4. Minimum 3 star hotel

Positives

  1. Close to Bercy Metro station.
  2. Breakfast included.
  3. Room was clean with a comfortable bed.
  4. Looking at the other hotels, not too expensive.
  5. For every day stay, one free water bottle.
  6. Plenty nearby options of Bar, Bakery and Grocery shop.
  7. Free of cost computer is provided at reception for printing (tickets or any other document).

Negatives

  1. Rooms are too small. Twin bedroom hardly fits for twin.
  2. Same with bathroom. Looks like meant for a kid.
  3. Staff hardly smiles, especially at reception.
  4. Repetitive breakfast menu.
  5. All bakery items only in breakfast. No cooked items included.
  6. An extra water bottle, will cost you 3 euro.

Overall an average experience staying here. Maybe, if staff would have been more welcoming and water bottles didn’t cost us so much, the other negatives would have been neglected.

Hotel Weisses Kreuz – Nothing Like It!

Hotel Weisses Kreuz – Nothing Like It!

On our trips, sometimes we think of Hotels only meant for sleeping since day time anyways, we are out to roam around. With such mindset, we try saving few bucks and end up compromising with our hard earned trips comfort. Hotels not necessary to be luxurious and highly paid, though it should be decent enough to make your night-sleep and morning-wake up pleasant.

Hotel Weisses Kreuz is one of the kind which makes your stay pleasant in the nature-blessed beautiful Interlaken city. Located a 3-minute walk from the Interlaken West Train Station, this hotel is surrounded with many restaurants, bars and shopping complex.

We visited this hotel in April end and stayed here for 2 nights for which we paid 193 Euro. The deal is little pricey, though looking at the living cost in Interlaken, we had no better choice.

Positives

  1. Close to Interlaken West Train Station.
  2. Convenient for travel between Interlaken West and Ost station.
  3. Bus stop is just opposite the hotel.
  4. Staff was helpful and greeted us with smile.
  5. Rooms are very spacious and neatly maintained.
  6. Surrounded with lots of restaurants.
  7. Common room with PC with internet for free of charge.
  8. Common room equipped with microwave, kettle, crockery, TV and newspapers.
  9. Free Wi-Fi.
  10. Complimentary transport pass to access bus service for nearby areas.
  11. Surrounded by snow capped mountains.

Negatives

  1. No room service.
  2. Tiny elevator so if you have more luggage, you may need two trips.
  3. No air-conditioned. Big minus in summer.
  4. Repetitive breakfast menu.
  5. If room is road facing, it is noisy.

Overall, a pleasant experience staying here. The best part is spacious room, convenient location and a very helping staff.

Hotel Four Points by Sheraton, Milan – A Recommended One!

Hotel Four Points by Sheraton, Milan – A Recommended One!

During our 9 days Europe trip, we had 2 nights stay in Milan. We booked Four Points by Sheraton since it was close to Milan Central Railway Station and carries a brand value. We paid around 180 Euro (including city tax) for 2 nights.

Staff was very welcoming and pleasant. There was construction going on when we stayed there, though it didn’t impact our stay. The first room which was allotted to us was smelly and after our complaint, they shifted us to the other room. The other room was without window and again on our request, they shifted us to better room with window.

Positives

  1. Close to Milan Central railway station.
  2. Staff was helpful and greeted us with smile.
  3. Room was clean with a comfortable bed and nice modern bathroom.
  4. Room service was available.
  5. Water was free of cost.
  6. Room was equipped with tea making facilities.
  7. Plenty of options in breakfast.

Overall, a pleasant experience staying here. Little pricey but looking at the brand and services, it is worth staying here.

Hotel Piave, Venice – Affordable Budget Hotel But Not Recommended

Hotel Piave, Venice – Affordable Budget Hotel But Not Recommended

We stayed here for 2 nights and 2 days in April end. It’s a budgetary hotel having a very close proximity to Mestre railway station. Having some positives, there are many negatives where Hotel can easily work on if wish to.

Positives:

  1. Budget hotel. We paid around 105 Euros (including city tax) for 2 nights.
  2. 5-7 minutes walking distance to Mestre railway station.
  3. A good supermarket nearby. You can get each and everything of grocery stuff here at reasonable price.
  4. Breakfast was included and serving staff was pleasant.

Negatives:

  1. Check-in time is 2 PM which is definitely has an impact on your day plan.
  2. Reception guy speaks tough with almost no smile and you don’t feel welcome part.
  3. One has to pay for drinking water. 2 Euro for a small water bottle. From nearby supermarket, it is just 0.40 Euros for 6 (1.5 Ltr.) bottles.
  4. Room is very very small. Nothing like which is shown on the website.
  5. Walls were not clean and there were many black spots on one of the wall side.
  6. No room service. Acceptable with this budget. Not to be considered a major negative 🙂
  7. Most of the staff doesn’t speak English but it was manageable.
  8. Last and the major one was the blankets. We could have survived any of the above mentioned negatives, but blankets were of the least quality. We felt like sleeping in refugee camps.

We understand it is the budgetary hotel, but that doesn’t mean few things can’t be handled. A humble request to the Hotel Management to replace you blankets with the better ones.

On my experience, I would not recommend this hotel and rather spend few more bucks to get into the better one.
