Unexpectedly awesome things to explore in Maharashtra

Unexpectedly awesome things to explore in Maharashtra

Apart from a friendly rabble on the Mumbai local trains and its low Air Quality Index, something which exists to a greater extent in Maharashtra is its surpassing natural beauty. Nobody can deny the fact that the state’s attractiveness is enhanced by mesmerizing beaches, stunning rivers, staggeringly misty mountains and the aroma of freshly cooked Pav Bhaji on the streets in the cities of Maharashtra. If you want to get a glimpse of its beauty and getting itchy feet on this weekend, here is the list of five unexpectedly awesome things to explore in Maharashtra.

1. Ajanta Ellora Caves
One of the major tourist attractions in the world, Ajanta Caves is just 100 km away from the Ellora Caves and located in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. Aurangabad is the nearest airport to get there. These cloak-and- dagger caves are a superlative example of Indian art and rock cut sculptures as well as emotional paintings artistically open the golden pages of Ancient India.

2. Panchgani Hill Station
Hill stations are many but Panchgani is something outstanding and as its name says the region contains a total of five beautiful hills, located in Satara district. The Pune and Mumbai Airport is about 100 km and 250 km away from Panchgani Hill Station respectively. Panchgani is mesmeric no matter in whichever season you go there but the fun can be double if you visit in the period between autumn and spring.

3. Sindhudurg Fort
Sindhudurg Fort is one of the historical places in India which occupies an islet in the Arabian Sea. Its massive wall touches the crashing waves of the sea and well enough to describe a fascinating piece of history. This fort is ranked on the tops of many tourist places in the itinerary the historian cum travelers design from all round the country. The nearest railway station is Sindhudurg which is connected to Mumbai & Pune and the convenient airport is Dabolim International Airport in Goa, just 130 km away from the fort.

4. Lonavla – Khandala
Maharashtrian (citizens of Maharashtra) are so lucky because of having the twin hill stations of Lonavla and Khandala, just a walking distance from each other. Lonavla-Khandala may be considered an extremely salubrious part of the state and undoubtedly a wonderful destination to explore which can be seen by the naked eye because your camera will not be able to capture the tremendous charm of these beautiful hill stations. Lonavla-Khandala is about 95 km away from Mumbai and 65 km from Pune.

5. Raigad Fort
Located in the Sahyadri mountain range in the Mahad town of Raigad district, Raigad Fort was built by Hirojee Indalkar with the guidance of Chandrarao More and filled with beauty with history. The fort is of great pride for the Marathas and everyone can feel its glorious elegance because the facility of the cable car is there so nothing matters if you are going with your grandmother or your children.

Dubai Garden Glow – A Unique Theme Park

Dubai Garden Glow – A Unique Theme Park

Dubai Garden Glow, an Eco-friendly garden full of photo opportunities, this beautifully designed glittering park is one of the coolest option for your evening time out. Having summer on the rise, first we thought it will not be a great idea to visit this open park. Though, not having many options with us during Eid Holidays, we went ahead and booked our tickets. I feel great to say that we had one of the most enjoyable evening even in the rocking temperature of 37c with high humidity. First we thought we will be the only one walking around in this weather, but no we were wrong and there were many families and tourists around.

Located in Zabeel Park and easily accessible, it is a unique theme park for entertainment of all age groups. All around you see Glowing trees, Flowers, Animals Structure with eye-catching lighting and glitters.

Park Timings

Park is opened from November to June every year and the rest of the period is closed due to hot weather. Park timing is usually from 4 PM to 12 PM, however this timings may change during Ramadan. You need to cross verify the timings on Dubai Garden Glow official website before you plan your visit; http://www.dubaigardenglow.com/timing-rates.php

Though park opens in day time around 4 PM, the recommended timing to visit is when day is going to off and lights are on in front of you. The sky majestic evening blue color with the combination of artificial lights will be a perfect combination for picture perfect.

On an average, you will be spending around 1-2 hours in the park, though I felt I could easily stayed there for 3-4 hours witnessing this man-made beautifully crafted lightening work.

Ticket Pricing

Per official website, the ticket price is AED 60, however if you smart enough to look for the deals on various e-commerce sites, you may get good offers.

Various Attractions

The park is majorly divided into two parts; Dinosaur Park and Garden Glow.

Dinosaur Park shows different generation and species of Dinosaurs. They tried their best to look Dinosaur as real as possible. There were lift sized dinosaurs, they moved, they roared and for each structure, there is an information about the species.

The other attractions include Kids fun area, Mushroom Forest, Rainbow Tunnel, Talking Tree, Flowers Basket and many more.

To be noted that you can’t take your own food inside, though there are many restaurants and cafes inside. Here we bring some of the pictures from our album to share with you;

Half Day in Al Ain – Zoo and Jebel Hafeet Drive!

Half Day in Al Ain – Zoo and Jebel Hafeet Drive!

If you are looking for a long drive from Dubai, Al Ain is one of the best option. Whether you are with friends or with family, driving to Al Ain for a day out is a must adventure. It gives twice reasons to do the same, one for sure is long drive and second you have a Zoo park widely filled with greenery & healthy animals and Jebel Hafeet Mountain, the top of Al Ain. The mountain drive to reach to Jebel Hafeet Mountain is full of thrill in itself.

Al Ain is two hours’ drive from main Dubai which is of approximately 150 Kms. We started around 1 PM and by 2:45 PM we were in the Zoo.

About Zoo

Zoo is size of 990 acre and located in the foothills of the Jebel Hafeet Mountains. It is home of over 4,000 animals out of which 30% of its 180 species considered endangered. The Zoo features Lions, Pumas, Jaguars, Giraffe, Rhinoceros, Arabian Leopard and many more. The main attraction of Zoo is while lion which is almost at extinct stage. It is said that there are less than 200 white lions remain in the world. The Zoo is widely filled with greenery and amuses visitors with its maintenance.

Entry Ticket

There are variety of tickets based on your ease and affordability. Standard entrance ticket is AED 30 for an adults and AED 10 for a child. If you are keen to explore SZDLC (Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre) along with Zoo, ticket price is AED 60 for an adult and AED 40 for a child. To have safari ticket which includes Zoo and Safari access, you need to pay AED 200 for an adult or AED 1,000 if you are in a group of 6 persons (maximum). For more details, you can navigate to Al Ain Zoo official site http://www.alainzoo.ae/en/en-visit/en-tickets-groupbookings.html.

There is another private tour operator named Ahlan which gives you a private tour service with in the Zoo and cost you around AED 750 with maximum of 5 adults and 2 children. If you explore on internet, you may get some good discount deals on this service if booking is made in advance.

Within the Zoo

To save some time, we booked our tickets with Ahlan operators which promised us to cover the entire park in 2 hours so that we can be free by 5:30 PM. Since we had to head to Jebel Hafeet Mountain (to have sunset view) just after the Zoo, we didn’t want to take the chance.

Though it was mid of September, we didn’t feel much of heat in the open area or rather it was because of we had a private vehicle to roam around. In the Zoo, we saw almost all the animals and bird species which we were expecting. However I would recommend it to visit during winter season since some of the animals were inside their A/C rooms. Along with open Zoo area, there is a separate indoor place for Birds and Penguins. Though there are not many bird species, still the place is worth visiting.

Zarafa Cafe

Inside there is a cafe named Zarafa for refreshments. There are both options available for Veg and Non-Veg. Price is reasonable and food quality is good.

Jebel Hafeet Drive

By the time we were free from Zoo, it was around 6.10 PM and sunset was about to happen in next 15 minutes. We tried our best but by the time we reached to the top of Mountain, it was already dark. But we had our luck since on the way to top of Mountain, we got one sunset point where we could park and got some memorable clicks.

Drive to Jebel Hafeet Mountain was an amazing experience for sure. The 11.7 KM stretch by cutting the rocky terrain and adding to the panorama view as you get closer to its 1,249 meter high peak gives you a sense of satisfaction that you got what you expected. It is one of the most beautiful drive rated by various international magazines and websites.

There are two lanes in the upwards direction and one coming down, and there’s an excellent sight lines to ensure that drive is smooth for the drivers. Since it is a rocky area, you need to be responsibly driving and ensure the safety of others. Sometimes there are cyclists and sprinters also on the way to train themselves.

Once you reach on the top, there is a nice open area from where you can have an exceptional wide view of the city. The temperature is slightly low there as compared to the normal city temperature which is a definite plus. To refresh yourself, there is a cafe on the top. Tea, Juices, Burgers and much more to enjoy there.

A personal request to visitors not to paint mountains with their personal messages. Maintain the beauty and charm of the mountains in its natural way.

Things to Remember

  • Depending on the climate, you need to be alert of what to wear. If it’s summer, don’t forget to carry shades and a hat. If it’s winter, Al Ain is comparatively cold when compares to Dubai. Be prepared to carry winter jacket and a warm scarf.
  • In Zoo, you can carry food stuff so enjoy some snacks when on the way.
  • If you are going to cover Zoo by walk, keep minimum of 4 hours plan.
  • On top of Jebel Hafeet, family comes to have a picnic. So you can too also have a good time on the top. Be well equipped with all the necessary stuff and enjoy your day!
  • Would suggest to start your day little early so you can have a nice sunset view from the top.

Ratings

It was an amazing day out with family and friends. We enjoyed every bit of it. I would rate it 4 out of 5 and would recommend to visit at least for once.

Harder Kulm – Not Just Top of Interlaken, It’s Much More!

Harder Kulm – Not Just Top of Interlaken, It’s Much More!

On 25th April’16, we reached around 2 PM to our hotel. After getting refreshed, we were out at 3 PM and started exploring the place on our own. Having no pre-planning where to go, still we were confident that we will make most out of this place. We had a complimentary bus pass given by the hotel staff by using that we could go near-by places and can avail some discounts as well at railway tickets. After spending couple of hours exploring nearby scenic views, Lakes and Mountains, we moved to Interlaken OST railway station. From here we came to know about Harder Kulm, mostly known as Top of Interlaken. We didn’t read about it before travelling to Interlaken though were convinced to be at this place by the ticket operator at OST station. In her words, for me this place is like, “Reach in the morning, had couple of beers, read a book, enjoy the city view surrounded by mountains covered with eternal snow. You guys will definitely like it. Though you are starting late, but still you should go.” And we were convinced. Rest is the story that we would have missed out a big if we missed it. Thanks to the ticket operator who made our day!

How to Reach

The journey from Interlaken to the Harder Kulm (Interlaken’s local mountain), takes ten minutes by cable train. Harder Kulm station is at walking distance from OST station. Tickets can be bought from OST station or from Harder Kulm station itself. Ticket price is around CHF 15 for one.

Train Journey

Before we could witness Interlaken view from altitude of 1322 meter height, we enjoyed 10 minutes cable train journey at fullest. Almost 90′ steep train journey, it is no less than an adventure in itself. Constructed by cutting the mountains, it gives a breathtaking view and thrill while reaching up to the harder Kulm mountain station. It is said that it has been more than 100 years for cable train serving the tourists.

Harder Kulm Mountain station to the Viewing Deck

It is around 5 minutes picturesque view walk from mountain station to the viewing deck. On the way you witness the calmness of mountain which are filled with eternal snow and slow moving clouds. You feel the almighty nature and believes why it is called God’s heaven. Viewing deck just out of the mountain and you can’t beat the view that Harder Kulm offers from here. A wonderful panorama view of the Alps, two lakes and the beautiful city of Interlaken. It is just an amazing view which is a must experience if you are in Interlaken. If luck favors and weather is clear, the view is going to be incredible.

Restaurant

At harder Kulm, there is a standalone restaurant just in front of viewing deck. At 2 degree of temperature, when we were freezing outside viewing one of the most incredible view, we had no choice but to get inside the restaurant. A warm feeling sitting inside and watching the view from wall size glass windows, we ordered Swiss homemade beer and red wine. We spend around 1 hour sitting there and ordered few drinks. Its little expensive restaurant but looking at the warmth and feel it gives at the top of Interlaken, it’s worth spending time there. The only drawback here, you just can’t sit idle even for 5 minutes, stewards will keep asking you on frequent interval to order something even if restaurant is empty and there is no customer. We faced such incident there.

Nearby Attractions

The Harder Kulm is a starting point for mountain hikes. It also offers a beautiful view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains as well as Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. Folklore evenings are held regularly on the Harder Kulm. There’s fun at the playground for children.

Overall Rating

A must visit place if you are in Interlaken. You need to keep 2-3 hours aside for this place including cable train waiting and travel time. Though it all depends on your schedule and mood. Overall I give 4 out of 5 rating to this place for cable train journey and incredible view from viewing deck.

Dubai Miracle Garden – A Heartthrob Flower Garden in Desert!

Dubai Miracle Garden – A Heartthrob Flower Garden in Desert!

The name given Miracle Garden proves it to be a Miracle. It’s not because of the way it is built but the speciality is about maintaining such a beautiful flower park in a city like Dubai. If you come from greenery rich countries, you might not be so thrilled looking at the park but you will surely be appreciating the efforts being put to maintain this amazingly clean and beautiful park. It is also said to be the world’s biggest natural flower garden which consists of different types of flowers, special vertical and horizontal landscaping designs in each area.

Grown up in the middle of Desert in the harsh sunshine with least rain possibilities, it amazed me how fresh and healthy the flowers look. Full marks to the Dubai authorities (which I often call as government of wonders) who is an inspiration to many ones.

How to Reach

Dubai government has recently inaugurated direct bus service to Miracle garden from Mall of the Emirates metro station. It is a non-stop bus service and takes around 20 minutes to reach to the destination. It costs you AED 5 from one side and to pay, you must carry RTA NOL card to access Dubai Bus Services. To be noted, Miracle Garden and Butterfly Park are adjacent to each other and same bus service is used to reach to Butterfly Park. Read our blog on Butterfly park here http://ghoomleyaar.com/dubai-butterfly-park/

Entry Ticket

Dubai Miracle Garden is just next opposite to Butterfly Park. For Dubai Miracle Garden, entrance fee is AED 30 and for Butterfly Park, it is AED 50. You can buy tickets easily over the counter. It is to be noted that entry is free for Disabled and children below 3 years of age.

Timings

Opened from 9 AM to 9 PM on Weekdays

Opened from 9AM to 11 PM on Weekends (Friday and Saturday)

During summer, park is closed for visitors (Generally from June to September) and is reopened in October or November. You need to check the official page of Miracle Garden http://www.dubaimiraclegarden.com/ before planning your trip.

Nearby Attractions

Butterfly Park is another attraction and is just next to the Dubai Miracle Garden. If you are planning to visit Miracle Garden, we recommend you cover Butterfly Park also on the same day but do ensure you start your journey early in daytime to enjoy your visit at its fullest.

Ratings

If you are planning you trip first time for Dubai and trip length is 3-4 days, we do not recommend this place since there are lot to explore in Dubai in 3-4 days. Though if you are here for a longer period or stay in Dubai then it’s a definite attraction to visit. Overall experience is worth paying. I give 4 out of 5 star to this flower rich spot.

Shilthorn Mountain – Weather Dependent, Expensive Yet Recommended!

Shilthorn Mountain – Weather Dependent, Expensive Yet Recommended!

In our 9 days Europe trip plan, we had 2 days or rather 1.5 day for Interlaken (Switzerland). Switzerland, the name itself brings lot of joy inside and all beautiful nature filled mountains with full of greenery comes to your mind. For anyone, any day, I must say Switzerland is a dream place to be. We had the same sort of feelings and were thrilled to be part of this life time experience. Since we had no prior bookings for any adventure, we had two choices to witness the top of Europe; Jungfraujoch (top of Europe) or Schilthorn (007 famed). Jungfraujoch lies at a height of 3,466 meters (11,371 ft) above sea level and Schilthorn is at height of 2,970 metres (9744 ft). Looking at the weather reports, day schedule and ticket price, we went with Schilthorn option and must say it didn’t put us down.

Start of the Day

To reach any of the mountain, we had to board the train for which no prior booking is needed. We reached to Interlaken OST station around 11.45 AM and I must say it was a very late start. Though we were committed to see one of the top mountains.

Weather Conditions

It is most benefited to go to such a top place when weather is sunny. Though most of the time it is not like that and on top of that you can’t predict. One moment it is sunny and another moment, it could be cloudy. We had a moderate weather prediction and coming to such a place I didn’t want to miss the change to go there.

Ticket Price

Jungfraujoch ticket was around 200 Euro and for Schilthorn it was costing around 120 Euro per person. Looking at the weather report, day schedule and price factor, we decided to go ahead with Schilthorn. Our purpose was to be on one of the top mountain and if it comes with 80 Euro less price then why not to go save something.

007 Factor

Schilthorn mountain is more famous for its connection with James Bond 007 fame movie ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’.

Culinary Aspects

Revolving restaurant with panoramic view, James Bond champagne breakfast, 007-Burger.

Accessibility
Train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen, Postbus to Stechelberg, cable car in four sections via Gimmelwald, Mürren and Birg to the Schilthorn; or from Lauterbrunnen cable car to the Grütschalp, narrow-gauge train to Mürren, on foot through the village (15 minutes) and cable car to the Schilthorn.

Journey Experience

A life time encounter with majestic mountain peaks on the Swiss skyline with Eiger, Munch and Jungfrau and 200 other summits. A breathtaking view and feeling like being in heaven ensures you the worth of money paid. The journey to reach from Interlaken OST station to Lauterbrunnen and then further connecting cable car is itself enthralling and filled with dream come true feeling. So beautiful, so amazed mountains covered with snow, Christmas trees with snow toppings, what more you could think of nature. You feel just be part of this breathtaking view and never go back.
